The most disgusting pest to ever infest a business is no doubt the cockroach. Most people will freak out at the sight of a cockroach with the thought of the filthy places they frequent. A business lives and dies on its reputation. Dealing with cockroaches in your home can be dealt with privately, but not in your business. Moving out of your home for a few days is inconvenient, closing your business down can be very costly.
Cockroaches are nocturnal, which means that an infestation can go unnoticed for a long time. More so in a business that is closed at night. Infestations can grow to large numbers right under your nose. When a roach is noticed by you or heaven forbid, a customer, you already have a serious problem on our hands. Cockroaches thrive in warm, humid places that are close to food and moisture sources. They are often found in commercial kitchen environments and bathrooms. Signs of a cockroach infestation include a musty odor, food packaging, droppings and brown marks. Dealing with cockroaches can be hard because they are so tenacious. The faster you get on top of the problem, the better.
German Cockroach Infestations
Living in America, you would think that the American cockroach would be the biggest problem for a business. But the cockroach that any business owner should be worried about is the German cockroach. The German cockroach is so well adapted to living within man-made structures that it is considered to be one of the most established insects in the whole world. They are smaller than other cockroaches, making it easier for them to get into spaces that others can’t. They are light brown to tan in color with two dark, almost parallel stripes on their backs right behind their head and measure 1/2” – 5/8” long. German cockroaches are responsible for illness outbreaks and allergic reactions for many people. They can spread at least 33 kinds of bacteria, six kinds of parasitic worms, and at least seven other human pathogens. They spread germs when they pick them up on the spines of their legs and bodies as they crawl around. Leaky pipes need to be repaired because cockroaches need a source of water. These leaks can create standing water. Sanitation is a huge step to roach control and is actually the best way to keep them away.
How to Get Rid of Cockroaches

3. Cracks and crevices are treated so if they run there, they will die
4. Baits are used to kill roaches at any stage if they manage to survive the first three steps
