Cockroaches are known for being filthy. They don’t just give you the creepy-crawlies, they can pose a serious health risk to you and those that you love. Luckily, there are several signs that will indicate a cockroach problem so you can get to work on removing them from your home. A-Tex Pest Management is here to share some signs that you have a cockroach infestation on your hands.
Seeing Live or Dead Roaches
By nature, cockroaches are nocturnal insects. They don’t usually come out during the day and if you see one, you know there are a lot more where that came from. They are excellent and hiding, but when there are so many of them that they can’t find anywhere to hide they will come out in the open. If you see them scatter when you turn the lights on at night it will also give you some idea of how many are in your home. Dead cockroaches are obviously another tell-tale sign.
You Can Smell Cockroaches
Have you ever smelled cockroaches? It’s true, they emit a musky odor that is rather unpleasant. If you only have one or two around, the smell won’t be strong enough that you will notice them. When there are hundreds of them though, you will be able to smell them. The sell generally comes from cockroaches that are alive, but if there enough dead cockroaches you will be able to smell them as well.
Seeing Cockroach Feces Droppings
If you have large cockroaches in your home, their droppings can be as large as a grain of rice. Many of them will leave behind little pepper-like flakes that will be a sign that they have been there. Look for them in dark places like corners, under appliances, and other places they may hide during the daylight hours.
Finding Cockroach Casings
Cockroach casings are long, hollow and light brown. These egg casings can hold up to 50 eggs in them at once. If you find these broken and empty around your home, you know that there is a large population of cockroaches that have just hatched and are now around your house. You may find them with eggs still inside if you are lucky and can sweep them up before those eggs hatch. Some cockroaches will carry them around with them until they hatch though. At any rate, these casings are one of the biggest signs that you have a problem.
